Habitat For Humanity Celebrates Its 110th Home In Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – 109 families in Sacramento have a roof over their head thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
Saturday, the organization's 110th family walked into their new home.
"I'm really excited, I am really happy. I cannot explain my feelings," said new homeowner Mazin Tsegay.
Tsegay is overcome with emotion. This single mother of two is finally getting the keys to her brand new home in Del Paso Heights.
"It's like this really big house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a garage, a front yard and a backyard and a bunch of other stuff," said Tsegay's son Lamek.
It's Habitat for Humanity that makes dreams come true for families like the Tsegay's.
"We're very much a hand up, not hand out program. Our families work really hard," said Laine Himmelmann from Habitat for Humanity.
Himmelmann said that the new homeowners put in 500 hours building the house – a house that will take on a zero percent interest 30-year mortgage.
For the family, this labor of love is more than just a roof over their heads, it's a new beginning.
"My life just so hard, I don't know what can I do … Just to have my own house, that's my dream," Tsegay said.
