Gunman sought after man shot multiple times in North Highlands

Investigation continues into Kemp Way shooting in North Highlands

NORTH HIGHLANDS — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot multiple times in North Highlands on Tuesday evening.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said it happened just after 6 p.m. along the 600 block of Kemp Way, which is east of Watt Avenue between Elkhorn and Don Julio boulevards.

The victim — only described as an adult man — was shot in the back and his wounds were life-threatening, deputies said. Though, investigators said he was breathing and conscious when taken to the hospital.

Investigators said the victim was walking near a home on Kemp Way when a car approached him and he was then shot multiple times. Police say it's possible multiple suspects were involved.

Neighbors in the area spoke about what happened.

"My roommate told me he heard four or five shots, and when he looked through the window, he saw everyone in the street running and scrambling," Joseph Obrochta said. "Within a couple minutes, he saw the chopper."

"I never experienced anything like that," Sam Yakimov said. "Friendly people on the street, good people. It's pretty crazy to see on your street. My house is right there and I can't even get home."

No details were available on a suspect description or motive.
