Gun, Radio, and Bulletproof Vest Stolen From San Francisco Sheriff's Deputy

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police say a San Francisco sheriff's deputy's gun and bulletproof vest were stolen from his home in San Francisco.

San Francisco Police Officer Albie Esparza says officer responding a burglary call Friday discovered the deputy's house ransacked.

Eileen Hirst, chief of staff for the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, says the burglars also took a department-issued radio, which authorities managed to disable remotely.

In the last year, handguns stolen from law enforcement officers were used in the high-profile slayings of Kate Steinle in San Francisco in July and muralist Antonio Ramos in Oakland in September.
