Giants Place Blanco On DL, Recall OF Hernandez From Sacramento
The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday the placement of outfielder Gregor Blanco on the 15-day disabled list. Filling his spot on the roster will be 28-year-old outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Sacramento River Cats.
Blanco has been in a season-long slump on the offensive side, hitting just .225 in 240 at-bats - his lowest average of his career (minimum 100 AB). His defense has been sub-par and he has been striking out more than usual, perhaps it could be caused by his shoulder injury.
Hernandez, on the other hand, has had a decent year with the River Cats. His .302 batting average, eight home runs and 51 RBI are some of the best on the team - plus, his 20 stolen bases are a big bonus for a team like the Giants lacking speed.
With just Conor Gillaspie, Trevor Brown and Ehire Adrianza on the bench, Hernandez will step in as the Giants fourth outfielder and late-inning pinch-hitter.
