Former Real Estate Executive Faces More Charges Of Eavesdropping
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A former real estate executive is facing more legal trouble after 16 new felony counts of eavesdropping have been added against him.
"Should this be proven, I think there is going to be serious consequences for this conduct," said legal expert Jennifer Mouzis.
The reason she thinks that is because it's the same charge Michael Lyon pleaded guilty to four years ago—secretly recording sexual encounters with women. He was allowed a plea deal at that time that gave him a month behind bars.
Then, about six months ago, Lyon was picked up for violating his probation after failing to show up to an appointment. A search of his Arden area home would reveal methamphetamine, for which he would also be charged.
At the time, documents showed agents seized several computers, laptops and external hard drives from his home.
"This would be a very different issue if the police had seized this prior to his original plea," Mouzis said.
She says the search is likely fair game, because of Lyon's probation status.
His attorney, Bill Portanova, confirmed over the phone the new evidence came from the October probation search. He says his client intends to plead not guilty, and they still need to get the evidence.
Lyon is scheduled to be in court on Friday.
