Flash Flood Warning Issued For Nevada Town Due To Retention Pond Failure

DAYTON, Nev. (CBS13) - The latest on a flooding emergency in western Nevada:

2:08 p.m.

Authorities are stressing there has been no dam failure. According to Lyon County Emergency Management, a storm water retention basin is full and overflowing into drainages.

The basin is located southwest of Dayton Valley Road.

Authorities say that no homes or property is threatened at the moment. However, there is a potential that could change, Lyon County officials say.

12:59 p.m.

Authorities are warning residents of a Nevada town to get to higher ground due to a dam emergency.

The National Weather Service says a retention basin above East Dayton is failing.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued until 6:40 p.m. About 2-4 feet of water could inundate the area in about 2-3 hours, NWS says.

The retention basin is northeast of Rawe Peak.

Authorities stress this is not a drill and everyone in the affected areas should immediately get to higher ground.

Dayton is about 13 miles east of Carson City and about 40 miles east of South Lake Tahoe.
