Two Homes Burned In Rancho Cordova, One Victim Sustained Minor Burns

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) — Two homes burned on Red Brook Way in Rancho Cordova. Firefighters said the weather played a big role in how the fire spread.

Fire crews knocked down the flames quickly considering the red flag weather of dry heat and high winds.

Sacramento Metro said the fire started in a home on Red Brook Way around 3 p.m. and the flames spread to the home next door on Danbury Way.

All of the residents of both homes escaped. One victim was transported to a local hospital to treat minor burns. A firefighter also sustained a twisted ankle during the firefight and was transported to the hospital as well.

"One of the homes has some significant damage to the garage and some living whereas the second home has damage to the living and kitchen area," Sacramento Metro Fire Captain Chris Vestal said.

Vestal said the crews ordered the second alarm on this fire because of the high heat. Since this is the second day of extreme heat, many of the firefighters are fatigued.

The fire investigators are searching for the cause of the fire.
