Fire Along Southeast Shore Of Lake Berryessa Prompts Evacuations

YOLO COUNTY (CBS13) – Evacuations have been ordered after a fire along the southeast shore of Lake Berryessa.

The fire, which has been dubbed the Monticello Fire (due to the nearby Monticello Dam) by Cal Fire, has burned 5,000 acres as of Saturday afternoon. Containment has jumped up to 30 percent. The fire was first reported Friday just after 9:30 p.m.

Cal Fire has issued mandatory evacuation orders for the Golden Bear Estates and Canyon Creek Resort Campground. An evacuation center has been set up at the Winters Community Center.

About 40 structures are threatened at the Golden Bear Estates, according to Cal Fire.

A total of 350 firefighters are at the scene. Cal Fire notes that the fire spread quickly Saturday afternoon. Crews are dealing with remote areas, high elevations and rugged terrain, inhibiting firefighting efforts.

Firefighters are working to build a containment line to Golden Bear Estates.

Cal Fire has not commented on the cause of the fire.
