Few Leads In Rancho Cordova Teen's Murder, Family Demands Answers
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – The hunt continues for the person deputies say shot and killed a Rancho Cordova teen Saturday afternoon.
Evidence markers are spread out on Lincoln Village Drive, marking the spot where 19-year-old Al Alexander was killed in broad daylight.
But his devastated girlfriend refuses to believe it.
"He wasn't affiliated with no gang," Desire Orey said. "He was a funny guy. He liked to make jokes a lot."
She says Alexander worked at Taco Bell and had big dreams
"He wanted to become an engineer," Orey said.
His sister is now determined to find answers explaining who and why anyone would want him dead.
"They shot twelve times and he got shot twice, once in the throat and once in the chest," Carmelita Blankeship said.
Detectives say the shots came from a car.
"A car pulled up, someone that he knew, because he walked to the car to talk to them and they started shoot," Blankeship said.
"At this point, we need to get a little bit of time to do some work and see if he had a dispute with somebody. At this point we have no idea," said Lisa Bowman with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Neighbors say it's nothing new in the area.
"In the last month, a shooting robbery down that way," said Connie, an apartment complex manager.
Just last month, a dog walker spotted a man unresponsive on the sidewalk. Detectives classified that incident as a homicide.
No one came forward at the time, either.
"It needs to come under control because this is crazy," Connie said.
Detectives are now going through surveillance video from nearby apartments and businesses. They have a vague description of a getaway car: a gray or silver sedan.
