CHP: Elderly Man Was Not Wearing Seat Belt, Dies In Crash On I-80

DAVIS (CBS13) — A fatal crash slowed down traffic on westbound Interstate 80, Wednesday afternoon CHP said. The collision happened just after 2 p.m. near the Mace Blvd. onramp in Davis.

The incident started when CHP officers heard reports of a hit and run collision on westbound highway 50 at Interstate 80 involving a green Ford.

An officer located the suspect vehicle driving westbound on I-80 at Country Road 32A. The officer tried to pull over the suspect car but the driver increased his speed and was involved in a traffic collision.

After the collision, officers made contact with the driver and said that he had not been wearing a seatbelt. The driver sustained major injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The driver's identity was not released, but a CHP report showed he was an 85-year-old man from Sacramento, driving a 1995 Ford.

The incident remains under investigation and officers do not know if drugs, alcohol, or a medical condition were a factor in the collision.
