Ex-Cal Fire Chief Says He Felt Like Zombie While Stabbing Girlfriend To Death

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Cal Fire battalion chief accused of murdering his girlfriend took the stand at his trial on Tuesday.

Orville Fleming is accused of murdering his 26-year-old girlfriend Sarah Douglas in May.

Fleming took the stand in a calm, matter-of-fact way on Tuesday until he spoke of stabbing Douglas. He became emotional and wept.

The 56-year-old former Cal Fire battalion chief said he met Douglas on an adult escort service site called myRedbook. He said their professional relationship later became a personal one and they moved in together.

He continually described Douglas as a drug and alcohol abuser with volatile mood swings.

He cried when he recalled the day she was killed. Fleming said they were arguing when he went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, and in his words, just lost it. He said he felt like a zombie when he stabbed her and doesn't remember anything else after that.
