Evacuation order issued for Wilton area as flooding "imminent"

CBS News Sacramento

SACRAMENTO - An evacuation order has been issued for residents living in the Wilton area of south Sacramento County.

The Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services say that residents need to leave the region now before roads become impassible.

Here are the roads bounding the evacuation area:

  • Northbound: Jackson Rd/Hwy 16
  • Eastbound: Grant Line Rd, south to Bond Rd, south to Hwy 99
  • Southbound: Arno Rd, west to Alta Mesa Rd, south to Twin Cities Rd, west to Clay Station R
  •  Westbound: Clay Station Rd, north about 4 miles, then northwest to Jackson Rd/Hwy 16

A Flood Warning was issued for the region Sunday morning. Officials say rising water from the Cosumnes River will spill over onto roadways, cutting off access to the area.

Of particular concern is how, last weekend, exit routes flooded quickly in the Wilton area.

An evacuation center is being opened at the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation at 9040 High Tech Court in Elk Grove.  Residents evacuating animals are asked to call 2-1-1 before evacuating to determine the best place to take them.

Residents are advised to watch SacOES.org as well as Sacramento County on Facebook and Twitter for updates. For information on roadway closures, call Sacramento County 3-1-1, the county says.
