Elk Grove police track down, impound car that allegedly participated in street race

CBS News Sacramento

ELK GROVE – A car that allegedly participated in an illegal street race in Elk Grove was tracked down and impounded weeks later, police say.

According to the Elk Grove Police Department, back in late October, officers spotted two cars apparently racing each other along Grant Line Road, near Bradshaw Road. The officer who saw the alleged race pulled over one vehicle, but the other car got away.

Police never gave up the search for that second car, however.

With the help of the department's traffic unit, police were able to identify the vehicle and a seizure warrant was issued.

Earlier in the week, police say they spotted the wanted vehicle in Elk Grove and impounded it. The vehicle will now be impounded for at least 30 days.

It's unclear if any arrests have been made in the case, or if the drivers in the allege race are facing any other repercussions.

Elk Grove police urge residents who see street racing to report it to authorities immediately.
