El Dorado County Tornado Brings Christmas Eve Destruction, But No Injuries

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — The first sightings of a tornado in El Dorado County came from Highway 50, where drivers spotted a strange white column in the sky.

A grandfather and grandson team flew their remote control plane into it over Folsom Lake.

Linda Douglas heard a loud boom, then went outside to find a huge tree ripped from its foundation and onto her car.

"I've always wanted to see a tornado but maybe not this up close and personal," she said.

Her goat shed was almost buried under the rubble, but the goats were OK.

A smog shop in El Dorado Hills suffered a collapsed roof and an awning in pieces with pipes and metal exposed.

Just up the street, a couple rushed home after hearing the tornado swept right over their house.

"We were at the Target in Folsom, and we saw the sky clearing and the funnel cloud starting to make, but 20 seconds later it was gone so we knew it had to be back toward El Dorado Hills," Tony Hill said.

Their home only had a few loose shingles and their neighbor's house only had a knocked-down fence.

Despite the widespread damage, no injuries were reported.
