Sierra I-80 traffic still recovering after fiery big rig crash near Soda Springs

NEVADA COUNTY – Traffic problems continued to plague eastbound Interstate 80 in the Sierra through the early afternoon hours after a fiery crash involving a big rig Tuesday morning.

The crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. near the Soda Springs offramp.

Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear, but a big rig was involved. In video posted by California Highway Patrol's Truckee division, the big rig appears to have crashed onto its side and caught fire.

‼️ TRAFFIC COLLISION UPDATE ‼️ (07/09/24 at 1:40pm) The big rig traffic collision on eastbound I-80 at Soda Springs has been cleared. However, be prepared for lingering heavy traffic in the area.

Officers say the driver of the big rig escaped with just minor injuries.

Eastbound traffic on I-80 was being diverted to Soda Springs as crews worked to clear the crash. 

CHP announced just after 1:30 p.m. that the crash had finally been cleared. However, officers warned drivers to expect heavy traffic to linger for a little while longer.
