EB I-80 Reopens Near Blue Canyon After Fire Burns Just Off The Freeway

BLUE CANYON (CBS13) — Eastbound Interstate 80 has reopened in the Sierra after a fire just off the side of the freeway forced a closure early Wednesday afternoon.

Cal Fire said an RV traveling eastbound on the freeway caught fire, which burned approximately 1.5 acres of nearby vegetation in the center median in the Blue Canyon area.

The California Highway Patrol Gold Run said propane and gas tanks exploded, but the fire was contained.

The incident appears to have started just after 1 p.m. California Highway Patrol initially fully closed eastbound I-80 west of Blue Canyon due to the fire, and everything reopened at around 8 p.m.

No other information has been released at this point.
