East Sacramento Woman Sees Bobcat In Her Backyard Months After Mountain Lion Capture
EAST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An East Sacramento woman claims she saw a bobcat in her backyard, Sacramento Police said on Monday.
The cat took off before police arrived at the home near 39th and H streets.
Julie Talbert stopped in her tracks on Monday afternoon when she made eye contact with a bobcat in her backyard.
"It was large," she said. "It was big."
Talbert says she happened to look out of her window just before 1 p.m. when she noticed a large cat sitting near her pool.
"Spots, uniform spots, and just the way it moved and perched up here," she said.
She got a glimpse of it just before it gracefully jumped over her fence and disappeared.
"It was very muscular, very lean," she said. "It turned around and looked at me and its face had the markings and stuff of a bobcat, 'cause I went and looked it up on the internet after that."
Talbert called police and officers came out and looks around, but saw no sign of it.
Neighbors in the area say they're worried, especially when it comes to the safety of their pets and young children. A mountain lion was captured in an East Sacramento backyard last summer, just blocks from Monday's sighting.
"It's pretty urban; we are pretty close to downtown so you don't think that you're going to have a wild animal in the neighborhood," said neighbor Rachel Luhrsen.
For now, she'll be extra cautious when she or any of her kids are outside.
"They play in the backyard, and they are at the parks all the time," she said. "This is our neighborhood, we want to feel safe here, so really its a concern."
