Dozens Report Illnesses After Eating At Chipotle Restaurant

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- Ventura County health officials are investigating after dozens of customers complained of illness after eating at a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Simi Valley.

The restaurant closed down for a day for a cleaning following the outbreak last week.

The Ventura County Star reports about 60 customers and 17 employees reported feeling ill. Mike Byrne with the county's Environmental Health Division says people reported various symptoms including fever and diarrhea.

Byrne tells the newspaper that some workers have not returned to work to avoid reintroducing any possible pathogen.

Officials will try to determine if the illnesses stemmed from a specific food problem and if changes need to be made.

In a statement, Chipotle says officials have taken necessary steps to ensure it is safe to eat at the restaurant.
