Dozens of SF Teachers Detained During Protest
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Nearly three dozen teachers were briefly detained by police and cited for blocking access to a downtown San Francisco law firm representing a city community college locked in contentious contract talks with the educators.
San Francisco Police say 30 people were given misdemeanor citations Friday afternoon. The California Federation of Teachers says those cited were members attending nearby union convention.
Union members are in contentious contract talks with Community College of San Francisco administrators. Members recently gave union leaders the authority to declare a strike if contact talks continue to drag on.
Union spokesman Fred Glass said about 300 union members gathered in front of the downtown law firm. Glass said police were notified of the demonstration in advance and the arrested were planned.
