Crash involving Sacramento Fire ambulance leaves 2 injured

SACRAMENTO — Two people was hospitalized following a crash involving a Sacramento Fire Department ambulance in the downtown area, officials said Friday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 3  p.m. at the intersection of 5th and L streets. Sacramento Fire said the crew in the ambulance was headed to the jail due to a medical emergency.

One crew member in the ambulance and a woman driving the other vehicle were hospitalized. The crew member's injuries were described as minor, but the woman's injuries were described as serious.

The fire department said that the two crew members onboard the ambulance got out to help remove the woman from her vehicle following the crash.

It was not yet clear what caused the crash.
