Detectives: Woman Attacked And Killed By Man On Watt Avenue

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – Detectives say a woman was attacked and killed by a man late Wednesday night.

The scene is on Watt Avenue near Larchmont Drive.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, a woman was driving south on Watt Avenue when around 10 p.m. she pulled over due a man walking in the roadway. Witnesses say the woman got out of her car and was attacked by the man.

The woman collapsed in a nearby parking lot after being attacked, while the suspect took off. Emergency crews who responded to the scene pronounced her dead.

Detectives say the woman suffered some sort of cut to her neck, but they are unsure of what kind of weapon was used in the attack. They do not believe the woman knew the man.

The woman has only been identified as being in her 30s.

Thursday morning, detectives announced that 28-year-old Sacramento resident Juan V. Avalos was arrested in connection to the incident. He has been booked at Sacramento County Jail and is facing a charge of murder.
