Off-duty Stockton police detective arrested on suspicion of drunken driving
STOCKTON - A Stockton Police Department detective has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
On Wednesday just before midnight, officers were called out to the intersection of Park and Pilgrim streets after hearing a vehicle had stopped at the intersection and remained there for a while, according to a Stockton Police Department statement.
Officers located the vehicle and identified the driver as off-duty Stockton Police Department Detective Andrew Donovan, they say. A DUI investigation was conducted and Donovan was said to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail.
Donovan has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an administrative review.
The Stockton Police Officers Association issued the following statement about Donovan's arrest:
Today, we were disappointed to learn of the arrest of a member of our association. If these allegations are proven true those acts are not a reflection of the values of the men and women who wear the uniform. We do not take these allegations lightly and know firsthand the trauma that DUI driving can cause.
Stockton POA members are not afraid to hold each other accountable and it was Stockton officers who investigated and ultimately made the arrest. SPOA members are impartial and enforce the law equally regardless of occupation and personal relationship. The officer in question, like any defendant, is afforded the due process of law and presumption of innocence. The POA will continue to do everything possible to repair the reputation of the community and work to regain any trust lost.
