Death Penalty Recommended For Suspect In Deputy Slayings
SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office is recommending the death penalty for the man accused of a shooting rampage that claimed the lives of two sheriff's deputies and left a motorist and third deputy wounded.
Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte, who was booked into jail under the pseudonym Marcelo Marquez, was charged, along with his wife, in the October 24 crime spree. The 14-count criminal complaint charges both with the murder of one deputy, though authorities say Monroy-Bracamonte fired the fatal shots. He alone is charged with the other slaying. Other charges include multiple counts of carjacking and attempted murder.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Sacramento County D.A. Jan Scully said: "Both the Placer County and Sacramento County District Attorney Offices have reviewed the penalty determination for defendant Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes, consistent with the internal policies of each office. Input from the victims' families was solicited, received, and considered during the decision making process."
Bracamontes' attorneys say they plan to appeal the decision.
