Damaged Overhead Light Rail Lines Cause Headache For Commuters
Light rail commuters in the Sacramento area were delayed getting to work this morning after a train stalled.
Just before 2:30 a.m., a train was traveling on the Gold Line between Mather Field and Watt Avenue stations when the mechanism that connects the overhead wires to the train broke.
Some riders who had to get off the stalled train were upset because, they said, they weren't told why they had to get off the train and wait in the cold.
"They should have their phones operative so we can call and find out what's going on. I think it's ridiculous. They need to be prepared for emergencies like this," said Mary Manees, a light rail commuter.
RT officials say workers will cut power to an electrical substation, repair the wires, power the substation back up and test the wires.
The train was towed to the Sunset Station.
RT officials told CBS13 at around 11 a.m. the repairs were made and service was restored back to normal.
