D.A.'s Office Details Arrest Of Viral Sensation Jeremy Meeks

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Jeremy Meeks, Stockton's internet infamous arrestee, will be charged Friday on numerous firearm and gang related charges, the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office said.

The complaint, named the People v. Jeremy Meeks, alleges that Meeks was a felon in possession of a firearm when he was pulled over Wednesday.

The D.A.'s office released more details about the morning Meeks was arrested, writing that officers reportedly saw that Meeks and other men were leaving a home around 6:30 a.m. that was about to be served a search warrant. Officers say that Meeks was the driver of the car that was pulled over. Two other men were inside the car with Meeks at the time and they were also arrested on similar charges.

Officers searched the car Meeks was driving and reportedly found a 9mm round of ammunition in the truck and a small amount of material believed to be marijuana, the D.A.'s office wrote. A loaded .45 semi-automatic handgun and two extended magazines were also found in the car's trunk.

The D.A.'s office notes that Meeks had a two-year stay in state prison for a 2002 conviction on grand theft. Meeks is also said to be a documented gang member from the Northside Gangster Crips.

Further, the D.A. will file a charge of a probation violation due to a recent arrest and conviction that said Meeks resisted arrest.

Meeks' mugshot, which garnered him viral attention as "Mugshot McDreamy" with many commenters noting his model-like looks, posted to the Stockton Police Department's Facebook page has accumulated over 68,000 likes and over 19,000 comments as of late Friday morning.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Meek's mom to pay for his legal fees. According to a post from Katherine Angier, Meeks' mom, she writes that he was arrested on his way to work and is being stereotyped due to his tattoos.

Only $778 of the $25,000 goal had been raised as of late Friday morning.
