Crews Put Final Touches On New Year's Eve Festivities In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Crews have been working all week to prepare and they're hoping the cold weather doesn't keep people away.

CBS13 was in Midtown Sacramento to see how organizers are gearing up for tonight's celebrations. The TBD New Year's Eve Block Party is almost put together and they are all sold out.
We are just hours away from the New Year, and the rush is on to get ready for the party...

"What better way to celebrate than to get a bunch of people on the street," said event founder Michael Hargis.

Crews spent hours getting ready for a New Year's bash from the organizers of the TBD Fest, bringing the party to Midtown. With a huge stage venue erected, blocking off 20th Street between J and K streets, and star DJs set to perform, the event is sold out.

"As of yesterday, we actually sold our last two tickets at, I believe, about 3 p.m., so all done," said Hargis.

Hargis says they're ready for the party.

"We've boosted our security, we've got in-staff security that will be roaming around, we've got a big staff from Low Brau that's all going to be keeping their eye on things," said Hargis.

So too will police.

"We want to make sure that people are able to celebrate the New Year and feel safe about it and we're going to be visible," said Ofc. Justin Brown, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers will be monitoring for partiers drinking and driving or anyone out of control, and may have plain-clothed officers in crowds.

And what's the New Year without fireworks? Crews spent most of the morning setting up for tonight's Old Sac display. With more than 35,000 spectators expecting to watch the pyrotechnics, this year they will be the largest ever -- launched from 12 separate locations along the river.

"It's going to be all over this year, so it's going to be a pretty incredible show," said Mike Testa, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau.

But with the warm colors, there's a reminder there could be bitter cold temperatures.

"It is going to be cold. We got gloves and jackets and blankets and everything to stay warm, yeah," said a spectator.

There are heaters at the TBD Festival, but with how packed the event will be, there will also be lots of body heat.
