Evacuations lifted for Creek Fire in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY – The forward progress of a fire in El Dorado County that forced people to evacuate their homes on Saturday afternoon has been stopped and all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.

The Creek Fire is east of Auburn, near Greenwood. It's burning off the 2700 block of Coon Creek Road, which is just off Highway 193.

Cal Fire said the fire is just over 15 acres and was burning with a moderate rate of spread. Shortly before 5 p.m., they said the fire was 10% contained and burning at a slow rate spread.

Highway 193, also known as Georgetown Road, was blocked from Main Street to Penobscot Road but reopened around 6:30 p.m.

Sweetwater Trail was being used as an evacuation route.

The El Dorado County Fire Protection District said crews responded to a structure fire that spread to vegetation.

There are sustained winds of about 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. They are expected to increase slightly Saturday evening from the southwest with gusts up to 25 mph.

Humidity is very low in the area, around 10-16%.

PG&E cut off power to nearly 800 customers from Greenwood to Georgetown.
