Court Gives New Life To California High-Speed Rail
SACRAMENTO (AP) - A state appellate court ruling is giving new life to Gov. Jerry Brown's $68 billion high-speed rail project.
It gives California access to billions of dollars in voter-approved bond funding and clears up some of the uncertainty the project has faced since a lower court ruled against it last year.
Ron Diridon of the Mineta Transportation Institute said Friday that it sends a signal to the world that California's bullet train is legally sound and is going ahead.
The 3rd District Court of Appeals this week overturned rulings that stopped the state from selling bonds and requiring state officials to write a new funding plan.
Opponents could still appeal to the state Supreme Court, and other court cases are challenging whether the rail line will deliver what voters were promised.
