Fairfield Woman Accused Of Drowning Grandson Officially Charged With Murder
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – Prosecutors have filed their complaint against a Fairfield grandmother accused of drowning her grandson.
The complaint reveals that Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes is facing a count of murder and a count of assault on a child causing death. She made her first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.
Wednesday, Fairfield Police said Raines-Hewes confessed to drowning her 4-year-old grandson on Tuesday. Detectives said the boy and two other grandchildren were being cared for by Raines-Hewes at the time.
The two other children were not harmed.
At Thursday's appearance, the district attorney submitted dozens of pages of discovery that includes Raines-Hewes' criminal record.
Raines-Hewes, 51, is being held in a safety cell designed to hold inmates who might harm themselves, police said. At her court appearance, she was wearing a green jumpsuit that prevents her from harming herself.
