Community Steps Up To Help Twin Sisters In West Sacramento Who Lost Home On Christmas Eve
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Twin sisters who lost practically everything in a Christmas Eve house fire are getting help from strangers who saw their story on CBS13.
Stanley Davis isn't a millionaire. He's just a hard-working guy trying to make a difference.
"Your spirit and attitude," he told Carole and Karin Sitts. "You even smiled after this tragedy and it really hit me."
It was CBS13's story from Wednesday that planted an idea in his mind. He saw the sisters talking about their loss after a fire they believe was started by a space heater quickly took over, filling their home with black smoke.
The Sitts were thankful they made it out alive, along with their pets.
"The black smoke was so awful," Carole said. "We would have died. My sister and I made it out alive we just feel very blessed."
After watching CBS13's story, Davis decided to reach out to the sisters. They met up Friday afternoon where he handed over a generous $2,000.
It was a blessing after a tragic event the twin sisters say will help them start over.
"In a way it was good timing, because it is during the season of Christmas where everyone is extra giving," Karin said.
The Sitts don't have an estimate on the cost of the damage yet as they wait to hear back from their insurance agent. In the meantime, other community members have stepped up to help, making small donations and giving them gift cards to help with the basics.
