Community Honors Slain Sacramento County Deputy Who Swore To Solve Their Problems

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — A community held a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of a deputy whose job it was to help solve its problems.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy Danny Oliver was shot and killed as he was approaching a suspicious vehicle at a Motel 6 on Friday.

On Sunday, community members, old and young, wrote a note to the fallen deputy. Some not even tall enough to reach the blue posters shared their wishes for Oliver and his family.

"RIP Danny, we all loved him," Ellie Murphy wrote.

The deputy and problem-oriented policing officer for the Foothill Farms community was loved by many.

"His shoes are going to be very, very hard to fill," said Debra Pounds.

Moses Mercado went to school with Oliver. He describes him as a calm guy, who was always the problem solved in any situation.

"Sad to hear that a good man like that be taken away," he said.

Mercado hasn't seen Oliver in years, but once he heard about the tragic event, he knew he had to honor him.

A Facebook page has been started to encourage people anywhere to shine a blue light on their porch in honor of Oliver.

"It's the least we could do to show and pay our respects for what he has sacrificed for us," said Marina Rogers.
