Comedy Central: Jon Stewart Leaving The Daily Show In 2015

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Comedian Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show later this year, according to Comedy Central.

The company released the following statement on Twitter:

"For the better part of the last two decades, we have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart. His comedic brilliance is second to none. Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry, in front of and behind the camera. Through his unique voice and vision, The Daily Show has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come. Jon will remain at the helm of The Daily Show until later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy family."

The announcement comes two months after the end of another staple of the Comedy Central late-night lineup ended its run. The Colbert Report wrapped up before Christmas as host Stephen Colbert gears up to take David Letterman's spot as the host of The Late Show in September. Letterman will be leaving in May.

The Daily Show Twitter account teased toward the announcement.

Stewart replaced former SportsCenter anchor Craig Kilborn as host of The Daily Show in 1999. From there, the show blossomed into a key news outlet for young adult audiences. The success of the show allowed Stewart to take a behind-the-scenes role as executive producer of The Colbert Report and that show's replacement, The Nightly Show.
