Modesto home invasion under investigation

MODESTO — A Modesto family is shaken after a home invasion occurred Tuesday morning while their two children were home alone.

It happened around 8 a.m. in a neighborhood near Yosemite Boulevard and McClure Road. Police say a 13-year-old called 911, but the suspects were gone before the officers got there.

"We have very limited descriptions. As you can imagine, the two children were pretty shaken up," Lt. Kalani Souza said. "However, it was confirmed that one of the suspects was armed with a firearm."

Police also say the suspects had an unusual disguise, dressed in construction gear including neon vests, gloves and masks.

Dottie Stamper, who lives next door, home when she heard a loud boom followed by screeching tires.

"I thought maybe it was the lady next door and she was in a hurry, late or something, but she never drives like that," Stamper said.

She would later learn from police that it was a home invasion.

"I was really scared. It gave me cold chills," Stamper said.

Police say it was an isolated incident and they are not revealing what, if anything, was stolen.

None of the children were hurt during the incident.
