Propane tank was source of explosion that damaged Citrus Heights duplex, firefighters say

Citrus Heights family displaced by house fire on Christmas Eve

CITRUS HEIGHTS – Several people have been displaced on Christmas Eve after a fire and explosion at a duplex in Citrus Heights.

Metro Fire of Sacramento crews responded to the scene on Trovita Way, near Sunrise Boulevard and Woodmore Oaks Drive, a little before 11 a.m. Firefighters say they got on initial report about a possible gas leak, prompting utilities to the home to get shut off.

At the scene, crews discovered that a resident in on side of the duplex allegedly set a fire. Gas from a five-gallon propane tank were expelled and lit, firefighters say, causing an explosion.

Damage to the duplex.

The explosion pushed out a wall of the home. It's unclear how much other damage was done.

A total of three people in the main unit have been displaced, firefighters say, while one person has been taken to the hospital with major injuries.
