Children Of Fallen CHP Officer Given Special Honor At Whitney High Game

ROCKLIN (CBS13) - A special Friday night football game at Whitney High School as the community came together to honor three young boys who lost their father. CHP officer Nathan Taylor was killed in a tragic accident earlier this year.

Taylor was a 6-year veteran of the department. He was hit by an SUV while investigating a traffic collision during a snowstorm in March. Now the community is letting the Taylor family know they're not alone.

Taylor left behind his wife Becky and three precious boys: 8-year-old Preston, 6-year-old Wyatt and 3-year-old Josh. Through the help of football coaches and staff, Preston and Wyatt got an opportunity of a lifetime.

The two boys joined the football team as they warmed up before Friday night's game.

And not only was this their first game, but the coach brought them on as honorary captains for the night.

"They're in the community, they're part of the family, and these kids are going to come through Whitney High School in the near future, " said head coach Paul Doherty.

"These boys have gone through a lot, and we all understand and want to show them the community really cares for them," says captain Matthew Chaffia.

Putting them on their shoulders, the team brought the boys out on the field and after a moment of silence in honor of their father, the boys knew they had a big responsibility, the coin toss.

"We're here to take care of them and let them look up to these guys. And the players have been awesome! They love being with them. Hopefully this will just give them a home, says coach Jason Feuerbach.

Taylor's wife watched and cheered her boys on from the sidelines.

"It's hard to grow up without a dad, but to have good examples of men around them is going to be really important for them. It's nice to know the community is behind us," said Becky Taylor.
