2-year-old girl hit by truck in Woodland dies at hospital

2-year-old hit, killed by truck near Woodland gas station

WOODLAND - A 2-year-old died at the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle in Woodland on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The Woodland Police Department responded to the 300 block of West Street, near Court Street, for reports that a child was hit by a vehicle at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers said they learned a 2-year-old was hit and taken to the hospital by family members, but died at the hospital. The 2-year-old was identified by family as Sanchez Martinez.

A black Dodge truck was found at the scene with a 3-year-old child inside. Police said they found a man who was associated with the truck and determined the truck hit Ailahni.

Police said on Sunday the driver of the truck left it running at a gas station pump with the 3-year-old in their car seat in the back when the father went inside a store. Police said the truck then rolled forward and hit Ailahni as she was sitting at a table.

Officers said the 3-year-old was found in the driver's seat with the truck in drive.

No one has been arrested and police are working to get surveillance video before the case is sent to the district attorney's office where it will be determined if charges will be filed.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Woodland Police Department.

Police said they do not believe DUI was a factor in the collision at this time.
