Chain Of Rain Dumps Massive Amounts Of Water In Sacramento, Up Interstate 80

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Torrential downpours overwhelmed drains and flooded streets in the Sacramento area on Wednesday, tying up the afternoon commute.

A Granite Bay home CBS13 came upon had flooded after a nearby pond overflowed and expanded into the neighborhood. Fire crews worked into the night with pumps trying to clear the water from the front of the home.

In Sacramento's McKinley Park neighborhood, you'd need more than a rake to clear up the mess left behind.

"I'm a kayaker and the drought's not over but it sure is nice to have this," said resident Glenn Brank.

He probably could have used his kayak to get down McKinley Boulevard after the sudden street flooding. He turned back, hesitant to take his car through all of the standing water.

"Would've been pretty far up over the engine so i wasn't going to take a chance," he said. "Just 20 minutes before my wife came through and had no problems. and 20 minutes later I had to stop and go up Elvas to get to my house."

The wet and windy weather is keeping utility crews busy as the Sacramento Municipal Utility District says it is dealing with mostly spot outages.

Some neighbors took it on themselves to clear clogged drains, as it was all hands on deck on the soggy Sacramento day.
