Teen missing on hike in Plumas County found by search crews

PLUMAS COUNTY – Search crews in Plumas County have located a 16-year-old who went missing while she was out for a hike with her dog.

At around 4:30 p.m. Monday, the Plumas County Sheriff's Office said Camila "Mila" Schweyer was located and was being taken out of the area so she could be evaluated by medical personnel. The sheriff's office did not say where she was found. It was not said if the dog — a small, Chihuahua-type — was located with her.

The sheriff's office said Schweyer was originally dropped off by her mother for a hike near the Elwell Lodge over the weekend. However, by 6 p.m. Sunday, she had not returned, prompting the mother to call authorities.

Search and rescue crews from Plumas County and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were dispatched and searched through the night for Schweyer, but could not find her.
