Call Kurtis: Viewer Fed Up Over Spotty Sprint Service During Upgrades
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — Viewer Erin Stover says her cell service started getting spotty a year ago. She says some calls just won't go through and she's experienced up to three dropped calls a day.
"When I'm on an important call it always drops the call," she said.
She said it was really a problem, when she dialed 911 for her sick father. She says she was forced to use a neighbor's phone.
"I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay full price for service that's not 100%," she said.
She showed us how her data appears to be slow too. It took about 90 seconds to pull up our CBS13 website.
"Ironically the first time I tried to call sprint to complain my call was dropped," she said.
Erin says Sprint won't let her out of her contract saying towers are being upgraded and it should get better. But she's tired of waiting.
Consumer Attorney Stuart Talley says if the quality of cell service drops for a significant period of time, the company should let you out of your contract.
"The phone company admits there's a problem with their equipment and that's affecting her service," Talley said.
We reached out to Sprint which acknowledged some customers are "experiencing some short-term inconveniences" during upgrades. As for letting customers out of their contracts, Sprint says it'll handle it on a "case by case" basis. In Erin's case, they sent her an Airave which acts like a mini cell tower inside your home. The company also credited her account.
Sprint says the upgrades will improve data speeds and make calls clearer. Click here to see the progress in your area. www.sprint.com/network
