California wildfires: Oak Fire containment now at 94%
MARIPOSA COUNTY - Here are the latest updates on the Oak Fire:
Aug. 7 update
The Oak Fire has burned 19,244 acres and is 94% contained, Cal Fire officials say. Crews are continuing to patrol and fire and mop of areas heavy fuel.
As of Aug. 7, the fire has destroyed or damaged over 200 structures and outbuildings. Three first-responders were hurt battling the blaze, which was initially sparked on July 27.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
July 31 update
The Oak Fire has burned 19,244 acres, and containment has risen to 64%. Meanwhile, crews are working to secure control lines in the rugged Devil's Gulch area, on the northeast side of the fire.
As of Sunday morning, more than 450 households were still without power. Officials says these home are in an area where there has been extensive damage to infrastructure.
The fire has destroyed 116 single residence structures and 66 outbuildings. Ten other buildings were also damaged. The blaze still threatens through 200 structures, Cal Fire officials say.
July 29 updates
7:36 p.m. update
The Oak Fire grew slightly since Thursday morning to 19,191 acres. Containment of the fire also ticked up a bit to 41%.
8:05 a.m. update
Containment of the Oak Fire has risen to 39% and burned 19,156 acres.
A community meeting will be held at Mariposa County High School inside the gym at 7:00 p.m.
6:29 a.m. update
Containment of the Oak Fire has risen to 36% and burned 18,824.
July 27 updates
Containment for the Oak Fire has risen to 32%, and 18,715 acres have been burned.
