California Game Warden Shot In El Dorado County
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A veteran California game warden is in the hospital with serious injuries after being shot while conducting a compliance check on two hunters in El Dorado County.
Warden Bob Pera was approaching two hunters just after dark Friday when a shot was fired. California Department of Fish and Game Lt. Patrick Foy says the 35-year-old was hit in the hand and bullet fragments entered his neck.
Foy says the circumstances surrounding the shooting aren't clear, and it isn't known whether Pera returned fire. But as he radioed for help, the hunters reached him and rendered aid to Pera.
Pera, an 11-year veteran of the agency, is receiving treatment at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
Foy says the hunters were cooperating with the investigation. No arrest has been made.
