Inmate at Calaveras County dies in cell, investigation underway
CALAVERAS COUNTY – An investigation is underway after an incarcerated man died while in a housing unit cell over the weekend in Calaveras County, the sheriff's office says.
Just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, deputies said officers found 43-year-old Benjamin Nava possibly suffering from a medical event in a housing unit cell.
Despite providing life-saving measures, deputies say, Nava died.
Investigators from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office will be investigating the incident.
Deputies said there were no signs of foul play and the investigation is ongoing.
