SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY — A suspect wanted for attempted homicide in Calaveras County remains at large after leading a chase that ended in neighboring San Joaquin County, authorities said Monday night.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said deputies tried to pull the suspect over on Interstate 5 near Benjamin Holt Drive but the suspect fled. The suspect eventually made his way onto Highway 26 before exiting and running, along with a passenger, into an orchard along Fairchild Road.

The passenger was located and taken into custody.

Search efforts were called off for the suspect as the sheriff's office said all of its manpower had been working on the situation. Some deputies will remain in the area.

The suspect was only described as an adult man wearing a black shirt with black shorts. Authorities say he is possibly armed. Anyone who sees the suspect or has information on his whereabouts should contact authorities immediately.
