Fire in Penn Valley area of Nevada County threatens structures

CBS News Sacramento

PENN VALLEY – Fire crews have stopped the spread of a vegetation fire that was threatening structures in the Penn Valley area of Nevada County on Wednesday.

The fire was burning near Byrne Way where it was threatening structures. In photos shared on social media by Cal Fire, fire retardant can be seen on structures in the area.

The fire burned about six acres, Cal Fire says.

The sheriff's office conducted localized evacuations on John Born Road between Chesser Hill and Pleasant Valley Road, Chisum Trial and Tanglefoot, north of Lake Wildwood.

An evacuation warning was issued for two zones in Nevada County, zones 65 and 23.

Cal Fire said the cause was determined to be from a spontaneous combustion of discarded yard waste.

Firefighters stopped the forward spread of a one-acre fire in Penn Valley earlier Wednesday.

No injuries have been reported in both incidents.
