Butte County Sheriff's Deputy May Have Fallen Asleep At Wheel Before Crashing Patrol SUV

CHICO (CBS13) — A Butte County Sheriff's deputy may have fallen asleep at the wheel before a crash on Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Tracy Panuke, 44, was involved in a solo crash when her marked sheriff's SUV missed at turn going westbound on Highway 32 at around 5 a.m. on Thrusday.

The CHP says the vehicle traveled through several bushes before hitting a tree that caused major damage to the vehicle.

Panuke sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Enloe Medical Center.

The CHP has ruled out drugs or alcohol and says the it is investigating whether she fell asleep at the wheel.
