Boy, 14, Out Hunting Shot, Later Dies; 16-Year-Old Arrested
WEST POINT (CBS13) - Authorities say a 16-year-old is under arrest after he fatally shot another teen in an apparent hunting accident.
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a quarry along the 1100 block of Bald Mountain Road a little after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a shooting was reported.
At the scene, a 14-year-old boy was found with wounds to his face and upper body.
The boy was taken to Mark Twain Hospital but later died.
Deputies say the 14-year-old was out bird hunting with a 16-year-old boy and was somehow shot.
The 16-year-old was later arrested by sheriff's detectives. He is facing a felony charge of discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and has been booked at the Calaveras County Juvenile Probation Department.
