What began as a small neighborhood party more than 30 years ago has become one of the area's largest and best Independence Day extravaganzas. The two-day event is held along the American River in Hagan Park, and more than 20,000 people are expected to join the fun. There will be plenty of music, a carnival, beer garden, food, exhibits, a BMX show, and a parade, and the younger family members will love the kid's zone. An incredible fireworks show will cap off both evenings.

Bars, restaurants and pubs in the historic state park of Old Sacramento will be commemorating the holiday one day early this year, with specials on favorite American beers. Patrons will have a great view of fireworks around 9:30 p.m., launched from Raley Field following the River Cats game. Red White & Brews is not a formal or family-oriented event, simply a chance to enjoy good deals on local, craft and national beers from across the country. Chris McSwain of the Old Sac Business Association says there are 25 different locations that serve beer in the park, allowing guests to "create their own pub crawl for a good, old fashioned American time."
