Sheriff: Deputy shoots, kills suspect after responding to report of gunshot inside Waterford home

Sheriff: Deputy shoots person after responding to report of gunshot inside Waterford home

WATERFORD – An investigation is underway after a deadly law enforcement officer-involved shooting in the Stanislaus County community of Waterford early Tuesday morning.

The scene is along the 13000 block of Bentley Street. According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 3:23 a.m. to investigate a report of a gunshot inside a residence.

Deputies say a roommate had called 911 to report that a different roommate had shot a gun inside the home.

Several people were inside the home, including some who were hiding in a bathroom. Deputies started coming up with a plan to get people out, but safety remained a concern.

The suspect, identified by the sheriff's office as 27-year-old Bradly Locklin, wouldn't respond to authorities.

Just under an hour after getting to the scene, deputies say Locklin walked out the front door of the home with a gun and fired at least one shot. He then started walking back toward the home -- and that's when a deputy shot Locklin, the sheriff's office says.

Locklin was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies say; no one else inside the home was hurt.

Several agencies will now be investigating the incident. The deputy who shot Locklin will also be placed on administrative leave, per standard law enforcement protocol after an officer-involved shooting.
