Authorities Investigate Potential Explosive Device Near I-5 In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Authorities investigated a "possible explosive device" near Interstate 5 in Stockton on Sunday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office said the device was located inside of a vehicle law enforcement was chasing before the suspect rear-ended a truck along Alpine in between Plymouth Road and Ryde Avenue, near the Interstate 5 on-and off-ramps.

Law enforcement said the suspect, who initiated the chase when they fled from an attempted traffic stop, was taken into custody and the passengers in the truck were treated for minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the southbound I-5 off-ramp at Alpine while investigators determined what the device was, according to the sheriff's office. It was later rendered safe and disposed of, authorities said.

No further information was released.
