Appeal Filed For Good Samaritan Billed By First Responders
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Officials say they're now pushing to have the fee a Good Samaritan incurred after helping out crash victims waived.
Derrick Deanda jumped into action after he happened upon a family trapped by a crash back in September 2015. A man and his three children were trapped inside of a car after it rolled over.

Deanda was able to break the glass and get the family out before paramedics arrived.
Weeks later, Deanda got a bill in the mail from the Cosumnes Community Services District with a $143 first-responder fee. Deanda was billed after a paramedic checked him out after breaking the van window; he had a small cut.
Tuesday, the Cosumnes Fire Department released a statement saying they were initiating an appeal to have the fee waived for Deanda.
"Although the fee was generated consistent with our board-adopted policy, there is also language in that same policy that allows for that fee to be appealed and waived at the Board's discretion," wrote Fire Chief Tracey Hansen in the statement.
Hansen praised Deanda's actions on the day he jumped in to help.
The Cosumnes Community Services District Board will be the ultimate decider on if the fee will be waived.
